Sheppard, an Indie pop band that originated in Brisbane, Australia, has finally made it to the US! Released March 10, 2015. Their debut album, which peaked on the Billboard 200 at 31, is quite an interesting listen to say the least…

  1. Grace’s Review: Geronimo: 89/100: Fantastic

Proved by the rating this first track starts off the album Bombs Away very well, with great beats and guitar that makes me want to start it over again and again. Lead singer George Sheppard offers a unique sound accompanied by the other members of the band to create a great combination and a great start to the album.

  1. Grace’s Review: Something’s Missing: 56/100: Average

The next track takes a much more mellow tone compared to Geronimo. The lyrics are catchy with the tune of this shorter song. It takes the usual sound of other songs out there, which doesn’t really stand out much.

  1. Grace’s Review: Let Me Down Easy:49/100: Average

This track starts off on the slower side, but gradually improves to its strong point which its three quarters of the way through. Although it is rather different in the beginning, the lyrics were predictable. I caught myself correctly guessing the next line. It sounds like every other pop song about love, but it can tend to grow on you after a few listens. (The chorus is still stuck in my head til this day.)

  1. Grace’s Review: These People: 46/100: Average

Not going to lie, but I kinda laughed at the beginning of the song, listen to it and you will find out why! But as These People went on, the lyrics became more entertaining. I can see a trend happening, and the theme starting to occur within these songs which is about love and relationships. But hey, some people like that.

  1. Grace’s Review: A Grade Playa: 15/100: Oh No

With this title, I had really no idea what to expect with song. By the first chorus I was done, but because I wanted to give it a chance I continued to listen. My feelings did not improve. A decent thing about the song is the music in the background, but the lyrics are very bland and unoriginal. I honestly didn’t think I would use this low of a rating, so I was just as shocked to type those words.

  1. Grace’s Review: Smile: 21/100: Okay

Smile has a nice beat, but does not impress me whatsoever. It is a nice little tune, but sounds like something out of a Disney movie.

  1. Grace’s Review: The Best Is Yet To Come: 78/100: Good

Finally some relief here. This track offers originality, something previous tracks are heavily lacking. The tone is not very light, but the fast beat helps move it along at a successful pace. It gets stuck in your head pretty quickly, which is awesome for this album.

  1. Grace’s Review: This Electric Feeling: 28/100: Okay

This song is very interesting, it feels in between a 50s doo-wop theme and scary movie music theme. The lyrics don’t match the music at all which gives it an overall unsettling tone, and over all it is kind of creepy.

  1. Grace’s Review: Find Someone: 61/100: Good

The beginning is very different, which leads into the verses that are slow and move along in a boring way. But it then launches into an exciting chorus, which almost adds suspense to the slower parts. The song ends as it begins, with many voices and people talking. If you listen close in the chorus, it sounds like he is saying “Funk” instead of the alternative. Seriously.

  1. Grace’s Review: Lingering: 44/100: Average

The lyrics give off a depressing vibe, but it’s also kind of sweet in a way. This conflict sort of distracted me from the song, but it does have have a nice tune.

  1. Grace’s Review: Halfway To Hell: 38/100: Okay

I was honestly creeped out by the beginning lyrics of the song. But, (since the title has a swear word in it I’ll just throw another one in there) this song is pretty badass. Not in an impressive good way, but the lyrics alone. Singer Amy Sheppard is shown in a better light in this song compared to others.

  1. Grace’s Review: Flying Away: 89/100: Fantastic

I immediately liked it from the start. I’m not sure if this was their strategy, but this song wraps it up as well as the first track sets it up. Flying Away is definitely doing just that, all the way through – carried by a set of great wings.
