Baseball seasons coming to an end! But not before sections…

Blaine Varsity Baseball Team 2015

Blaine Varsity Baseball Team 2015

The varsity baseball team is at a good pace right now, with 15 wins and 9 losses, which is the most they’ve had since 1999! But, they’re record is in jeopardy because of sections they have this week. They play on friday against centennial, and the pressure is on! See, the deal with sections is that the guys have to give it they’re all this week, because if you lose in section, the school is out, and the season is over for the losing team, so its a pretty big deal. Especially since Blaine is one of the final four schools playing in the sections. Which is great, but they need to prepare ourselves for whats ahead because there are some real good teams in sections with them.

And even though the season is almost over for the most of the boys, the seniors are turning to a new chapter in their lives, because some of them plan on playing college baseball. Like Zach Rustad for example, who plans on playing for century college, or Andy Antczack, who is playing for the University of Minnesota Duluth. And although the guys will be leaving blaine for bigger and better things, their legacy will always be with us.

1: HOW IS IT COACHING A VARSITY TEAM?

First of all, it’s a ton of fun. The guys on the time are great. They work hard and make it exciting to come to practice to teach them. I would also say that it is an honor. I think it’s a big deal to be a part of Blaine High School and the traditions and values that come along with Blaine.

2:WHAT IS ONE MEMORY FROM THIS SEASON THAT YOU’LL REMEMBER?

It’s really hard to pick just one, but I would probably say the way the seniors have really come together as a group. Us coaches have seen these guys develop over the years and not only turn into quality baseball players but also great young men. I have no doubt that these guys are going to be successful in life. Watching them beat Minnetonka on senior night was a pretty special memory.

3: HOW DOES IT FEEL HAVING A SOPHOMORE ON A TEAM FULL OF JUNIORS AND SENIORS?

It’s exciting. It’s good for the future of the program. Reid didn’t get to play this much due to an injury. He came back and played some JV at the end of the year. It’s really about the group of guys as a whole though. We have 20 guys on our section roster that all play a role, regardless of age.

4: ONE THING YOU’LL MISS FROM THE SENIORS?

Again, hard to pick one thing. I’ll just miss seeing them every day. They truly are a special group. If I had to pick one thing, I will miss how they put Blaine baseball on the map. This group has been very successful and have set the bar very high for future players. (Eric Feigum, Head coach/varsity coach)
