As some of you may know, we had 20 high school students from Germany come stay with Blaine German level 3, 4, and 5 students for 2 weeks. 17 were girls and 3 were boys. Although their stay here went fast, its not a goodbye yet. The students that had hosted a german will travel and stay in germany with them in June 2015. Its an exchange program through the school where both students get a taste of the others country and daily life style.

Some fun field trips they took while here were the mall of america, still water, duluth, and both cities. Their stay had also been over halloween. In germany they do not make a big deal out of the holidays and only the little ones go out to trick or treat. so while in america they got the chance to dress up and go out to some haunted houses, hay rides, parties, carving pumpkins, and trick or treating at a few houses.

While they where here i interviewed Nicole, my brothers exchange student. I asked her what she had thought america would be like and she said “I expected more really over weight people and a McDonnell’s on every corner.” Nicole also said “You’re school is very big, withe very nice teachers.” Back at home they don’t get as good relationships with teachers and the population at school is much smaller.

At the end of the trip we all had a gathering at pizza ranch in Andover. At the dinner, they had all got to share their favorite parts and interests in america. Majority had a blast at haunted houses and shopping at the mall of america, but most were surprised how some of the stereotypes were not completely true. Although the goodbye was bittersweet for most families, the Blaine students cant wait to see Germany!

 Auf wiedersehen Blaine!
