Many students at Blaine participated at sections for speech a few weekends ago at Champlin Park High School. A handful of those students made it to the state tournament for their performance. In order to make it to the tournament, the students first had to make to the final round by being in the top six in their category. Student then needed to place in the top three in the final round in their category to secure their spot in the tournament. The tournament is being held on Saturday, April 16th at Lakeville North High School.

A total of eight Blaine students made it to this tournament including Harley Pierce-Ramsdell, Laura Belec, Miranda Rice, Evan Gustafson, Vidhi Shah, Nick Lero, Kalli Doyle, and Rachel Jide. These individuals have worked extremely hard all season long, and their efforts have led them to an opportunity to compete at a state wide level. Head coach Cody Goodchild had this to say: “Making it to state in our speech section isn’t easy, and these Blaine students really proved themselves. As a coach, it makes me proud to see them turn all of the hard work they’ve put in this year into something really meaningful. I was thrilled to have so many students do so well at sections. Minnesota State Speech is actually one of the most competitive speech tournaments in the world, and I’m excited to see how our competitors finish off their season there.“

Students and coaches alike are enthusiastic about this tournament. They know they have an amazing opportunity. State contestant Miranda Rice said “Being in speech has been one of the greatest times in my high school career. Going to state has definitely been an amazing opportunity and milestone in my life.” Hopefully this success can continue for seasons to come.
