The BHS College Fair
April 6, 2015
College. Something that most students at Blaine High School strive for. We went around and asked students what they think it takes to get into a good four year college:
15 out of 20 people said it takes not only a good GPA, but a good ACT score. That is true, but it takes much more than decent academics to get into a college.
The college fair held here at Blaine High School on March 22nd 2015, made exploring colleges and getting introduced to new and bigger opportunities a lot easier.
We asked those same 20 students (who all attended the college fair) what they had thought of it. Surprisingly they all said similar things, “It was more than I expected.” We asked to go more in depth with what some of them had meant by that. We asked half of them, 8 sophomores, 4 of them being in Center for Engineering Mathematics and Science (CEMS) (Ethan Learned, Amnisty CasaDeCalvo, Matt Rotter, Ashley Tyson, Arianna Doyle, Evan Anderson, Madison Michurski, and Emily Brown) and two Juniors (Emily Ganley and Blake Nastrom) how they liked the college fair. 4/8 attended last year and out of that, 4/4 said “Last year I didn’t get nearly as much information as I did this year.”
Has the college fair not changed drastically since last year, but this year, these students gained more from it with coming of age, and actually getting serious about college? Or has it truly improved?
