Wednesday February 13th, Blaine High School had it’s very first art club meeting.
The art club is run by Mrs. Susan Hughes and will meet every other Wednesday in room 138. All BHS students from all grades are welcome to come.
Mrs. Hughes has been a ceramics teacher for 6 years and for the past 5 years, has also taught every art class offered at Blaine. She says in order to join, “You just have to like art. That’s the best part. You dont have to be an artist to join. You join so we can teach you.”
Hughes said she started up the club because, “There are a lot of kids that like art and maybe don’t have time in thier schedule to take art classes.” She also adds, other high schools have an art club and that Blaine could have one too. Hughes says the point of the club is, “To make art and to spend time together. A lot of kids maybe don’t have classes with thier friends and art club is a great place they can spend time together.”
In the first meeting, students learned how to marble paper and create sketch books. Montey Jacks (12) attended the first meeting and says he joined because he loves art, “Art is a huge deal. I like to make things that pop up in my head come to life.” Jacks says that he enjoyed the first meeting.
