Hanna Stratton

Sophomore Hanna Stratton is making a name for herself in the city of Blaine. With soccer, track, and the brains, she has been on her way to being a full-blown champion.

One of Stratton’s favorite pastimes include running–a reason she is involved in track and field. She competes in only the 800 meter dash.

At the Northwest Suburban Conference Meet Preliminaries on Tuesday, May 22nd, at Coon Rapids High School, Stratton’s time was 2:49.66 and placed last out of 31 girls. She did not qualify for the finals two days later.

She first ran her season record of 2:29:38 at the Section 5AA Prelims on Wednesday, May 30th, at Hamline University in St. Paul. In the Prelims she placed 14th out of 40 different girls of various ages.

She came close to qualifying for the finals the next day, but did not make the top 13. She missed the spot by .43 seconds, Stefini Weimholt, a junior from Coon Rapids, took the 13th spot.

Stratton had a total improvement time of 20.28 seconds in 9 days.

“I love running, and working hard to reach my goals. I realize that hard work pays off in the end, and I’m willing to do whatever it takes to get there,” Stratton said.

Even though Stratton is planning on doing track and field during college, she still participates in soccer for the Girl’s Varsity team. Hanna played 14 out of  20 games for the entire regular season.

Hanna scored one goal for the entire season during the team’s first game against St. Francis. She also had one assist.

Her dad, Tom Stratton, is the assistant varsity coach and technical trainer for the girl’s soccer team. Her sister, Mandy Stratton, was captain of the soccer team last year. She is now playing division one soccer in Texas.

Hannah Stratton has the brains to go with the sports accomplishments as well. Last year, when she was a freshmen in her honors physical science class, she competed in the annual district STEM Fair.

Over 600 from the Anoka-Hennepin School District Competed, and there were 10 finalists. Hannah Stratton was one of the 10. She was rewarded with a Navy Awards certificate, a medal, and a $50 dollar gift card to Staples.
