The Blaine Girls Lacrosse team played a top 10 ranked team Maple Grove, on Monday April 20th. The Bengals were 3-0 going into the game which “gave them more confidence going into the game even though Maple Grove was good” says junior Kate Wehr.

The weather was less than favorable with sleet pelting down during the national anthem and wind taking over shortly after the game had started.

The Bengals started out strong, with Lexi Nelson (12) scoring the first goal less than two minutes into the game. Maple Grove was quick to fire back, tying the game at 1-1 in the fourth minute. Captain Ashley Osbeck said “I thought we had a good chance to win the game since we won our first 2 games and we were confident on how we have been playing, but once we got down I think our play level and positivity went down.”

After the Crimsons second goal, things started to go downhill for Blaine, letting in a total of 6 goals before half. Once again the Bengals struck first in the half with sophomore, Gina Rosvald, scoring less than a minute into the second half. However, later in the game the girls started to get down on themselves and didn’t give it all they could. Blaine scored three more goals, making the end result a 13-5 loss.

The Bengals did not stay down for long and were ready for some redemption. They had a game on Wednesday, April 22nd against Totino-Grace, in which they dominated winning 24-9.
