Curling Club New Here at BHS!

We got stones.

Blaine High School has added a new addition to their staff this year, and his name is Mr. Gallagher. Along with that new teacher, came a new idea… Curling Club.

Curling Club is new here at Blaine High School. If you aren’t familiar with the sport of curling, it is a team sport played on ice. Played with curling stones or “Rocks”, and brooms. It is also a Olympic game, and was recently played at Sochi for the Olympics.

The idea sparked in the beginning of the year while Mr.Gallagher was talking to students about curling. The students became interested and soon enough they became a club and began to go curling. They started the club in January of 2014, with a decent amount of students wanting to be apart of the first season of curling at Blaine. They have about 15 students involved in the sport, which is a great amount considering that curling is not particularly mainstream. “In no other sport is there sweeping, and everybody plays all positions.” is Mr.Gallagher’s take on why curling is unique compared to other sports.

Where the Curling Club meets is the same place the Blaine Bengals Hockey Team plays, Four Seasons Curling Club at Fogerty Ice Arena. Mr. Gallagher says he hasn’t gotten the amount of hype that he would like, saying “Curling does not get enough attention here at Blaine, but I sort of expect it to not get as much attention considering its only the first year.”

If you’re looking for a sport this spring the Curling Club will start again on April 2nd, 2014. All you have to do to sign up is talk to Mr.Gallagher. The sport is not expensive. It only costs 5$ per week to play curling. In total there are 10 weeks of curling, which would only be 50$ for the season. You can sign up with your friends to try something new this spring, and it is relatively cheap to play If you’re looking for some cheap fun with friends!
