Blaine Boys Hockey against Champlin

On Saturday the Blaine Boys Hockey Team played Champlin Park at Fogerty Arena.  This game had a special significance for the boys.  If they won they would clinch the conference championship outright and clinch the 1st seed in the section playoffs.

The game got started on a positive note for Blaine when Jordan Turnquist scored at 6:19 in the first period.  He was assisted by Tyler Maki and Jack Micek.  This put them up 1-0.  The next goal came at 8:26 when Joey Lau scored with an assist from Ian Scheid(11).  At 12:20 in the first Champlin scored their only goal of the game.  Blaine’s 3rd goal came at 13:17 when Ian Scheid scored.  He was assisted by Brandon Notermann and Alex Copa(11).  The fourth goal came at 14:09 when Jesse Norling scored.  He was assisted by Alex Copa and Dallas Gerads(11).  It was an exciting period for Blaine but there was still two periods left.

The 2nd period was much like the first for the Bengals.  It got started with a Copa to Gerads goal at 13:45 in the second.  Blaine scored again at 14:38 when Easton Brodzinski scored with assists from Riley Tufte and Frank Vescio.  Both teams were shut out from then on.  The boys won 6-1.

The boys had accomplished their goals.  They clinched the conference title and the #1 seed in the section playoffs.  The guys were pumped. Lau said, “It was a good game for us, we played well in all aspects of the game.  Clinching the conference was nice but we are happier with the number one seed for sections.  We had a good season and we are ready for the playoffs.”  Gerads exclaimed, “It was a good game.  We worked hard as a team.  It feels good to have the conference but now we need to focus on the playoffs.  We need to keep getting better.  It has been a great season with all the boys.”
