Blaine Boys Hockey Game vs. Moorhead

Friday night the Blaine Boys Hockey Team hosted Moorhead.  After a tie in their opener, the team was riding a 5 game winning streak.  Goalie Bailey Ketola said, “I think there’s been no pressure at all, we just played our game and never given up.”   “It was important to keep playing well.” Dallas Gerads(11) emphasized. “We for sure wanted to keep winning and build momentum going into Christmas break and the Schwan Cup.”Alex Copa(11).  “I don’t think the fact that we are undefeated affected us last night in terms of pressure, but I do think that our team is getting a little comfortable with where we are which could be dangerous.” Said Nic Simpson(11). Joey Lau explained, “We are one of 3 undefeated teams in the state right now so there was a little pressure to keep the streak going, but all we really care about is winning the final game.”  , “There wasn’t really much pressure you just have to think of it as a regular game.”

In the 1st period, Blaine was in control.  They outshot Moorhead 14-9.  Unfortunately neither team scored a goal.  Despite a near Blaine goal when the puck went across the goal line but play had been blown dead by the referee.  Gerads, Copa, Simpson and Lau all said that they weren’t concerned about the lack of goals in the 1st period because they knew they could score and it would only be a matter of time before they scored. “I don’t think we were worried.”, said Bailey.  “There was nothing but positive comments in the locker room from the guys after the 1st period. I wasn’t really worried after the first because we still had 2 more periods to go and we really aren’t a 1st period team.  The win showed that we are a strong team”said Tyler.

In the 2nd period, Blaine scored two goals.  The 1st came at 2:36 when Brandon Noterman scored with Assists from Ian Scheid(11) and Jack Micek(12).  The 2nd came at 13:11 When Lau scored with Assists from Gerads and Scheid.  The defense kept the shutout going through the second period.

In the final period, Blaine tacked on yet another goal at 13:10. Noterman scored his second goal of the night.  He was assisted by Scheid and Frischmon.  Blaine held Moorhead scoreless in the 3rd period.  They secured a 3-0 victory.

The shutout showed that we are getting better in the defensive zone and we have good goalies to help out.”  Copa explained, “It gave us more confidence defensively and will lead us into the holidays.”  Lau said, “The shutout was a big confidence boost for our defense.
