Jason Travis (11) scored 22 points in Blaine’s 70-40 victory at Coon Rapids on Friday night. The field house in Coon Rapids High School was full of loud students who left doleful after their team was demolished by the cross-town rival Bengals.
Travis seemed to be more aggressive going into the game, scoring 12 of his points in the paint, and scoring four points from the free throw line.
Blaine basketball dominated the night, as each of the five teams beat the Cardinals. The JV players got an extra workout, because after winning their game, ten JV players played in the varsity game after the Bengals had built an insurmountable lead with a 10-0 run with 10 minutes remaining in the second half.
It was just a sloppy game for Coon Rapids. Blaine stole the ball 19 times, which is evident in the Cardinals’ low point total. Blaine’s defense swarmed the Cardinal shooters when they didn’t turn it over, and forced a lot of missed shots. Coon Rapids Tykeise Johnson(10) was one of the very few things that the student section had to smile about. Johnson led his team in scoring.
With this win, Blaine regains their confidence after being stomped at home by Osseo. The Bengals improve to 3-2 on the season.
