Volleyball to Serve It Up at State After Smashing Osseo

Lydia Dimke (11), as the outside hitter, watched as the volleyball was knocked back and forth between her team and Osseo’s.  It blurred as the two teams exchanged spikes, blocks, and digs.

To Dimke, it was time to shake things up.  She slowly inched to the far corner of the court.

Meanwhile, an Osseo player, after receiving a set, slammed the ball toward Kali Dahmus (12), defensive setter.  Dahmus eyed the ball and dug deep, deflecting it suddenly to where Dimke was waiting.  Dimke took a large stride up to the net and leaped toward the floating ball.

No Osseo defenders were close enough to try a block.  Dimke had a wide open spike.  She cocked back her arm and, catching the entire Osseo team by surprise, nailed the opposite corner.

The play between Dimke and Dahmus was one of many plays by the volleyball team against Osseo on Saturday, November 3.  But every time it was one of their most efficient plays, almost always guaranteeing a kill.

“I just have so much adrenaline going through my head, and all I can think of is ‘I really want this’,” said Dimke.  “My team worked really hard, so it’s my job.”

After losing the first set, the pressure was on for Dimke’s team.  The game quickly turned around, as point after the point Osseo watched the lead slip from their grasp.

The final score: 3-1.

With this win, the volleyball team is the section 5AAA champions.

“It feels amazing,” said Dahmus, “It feels good to be a part of the team and working hard for each other, not for yourself.”

Volleyball will serve it up at the state tournament and play on Thursday, November 8 at the Excel Energy Center at 11:00 against unseeded Bemidji.
