In the U.S. we call it soccer. But almost everywhere else it’s called futbol, or as some may call it, the beautiful game. No matter what it’s called, it’s proven to be the most popular sport in the world. Though in the U.S. it isn’t as appreciated as it should be. 

In the U.S., soccer is claimed by researchers to be the sixth most popular sport in America. The list starts off with American Football, followed by Basketball, Baseball, Boxing, and Hockey. This doesn’t make very much sense since soccer is the most played youth sport in the country. But it turns out the reason soccer is not very popular is that many people in America don’t understand the beauty and excitement of the game. 

In other countries, soccer is easily the most loved. Played by 250 million players in over 200 countries, making it the world’s most popular sport. Also hosting the biggest sporting tournament in the world, the World Cup. In which the final game had a viewership of 3.3 billion viewers! Making it the most-viewed sporting event in history. Soccer is also the most viewed women’s sport in the world, bringing in more money than any other women’s sport. Especially in the U.S.

Soccer is a sport for everybody to love. Regardless of age, gender, and skill level, anybody can play. You don’t even need equipment like most other sports all you need is a ball. It can be played in the street, in a park, on a field, or even on the beach! Soccer is a sport that brings people together from all over the world. Especially with the World Cup tournament. And that’s why soccer should be more popular than any other sport in the United States.
