Life as a Muslim Teen Girl
March 22, 2016
If you think about it a Muslim girl experiences a lot of different things than a non Muslim girl. I’m here to tell you the how a teen Muslim girl life goes.
Let’s start a morning with a Muslim girl. We begin our day with the first prayer which is Fajr, (dawn prayer). We have to wake up before the sun rises to make the fajr prayer. To prepare for prayer we have to do something called wudu or ablution which refers to the mental preparation and physical cleanliness of Muslims for the Salat (prayer), one of the Five Pillars of Islam. The reason we do this is because we believe that when we are doing our prayers it is like we are talking to God (Allah), so you want to be clean when you meet your Lord. We should also change our clothing for praying. (Women have to wear the head cover called the hijab and cover up, just like they do when they are going outside of their house.) It’s kind of like a shower. Prayers in Islam are not very similar to prayers in other religions in the moderate days. After we’re done making our prayer we get ready to start our day by brushing our teeth, and picking out our clothes for school. When you see us Muslim girls we’re always wearing the hijab. Most people believe that we are forced to wear the hijab, which is not true. We choose to wear the hijab; and who wouldn’t want to wear something that would make people see you for who you are on the inside, instead of how you look on the outside?
At school, there isn’t really that much struggles for me as a high school student, because BHS is a very safe school. The only one big problem for most Muslim girls are making Friends. Sometimes I feel that people are intimidated to come up
to me and start a conversation. Please don’t be shy, we are very friendly people. I have been in America all my life. I like to hang out with friends, and we basically like to do all the same things that any teenage girl likes to do. If you would like to become friends with a Muslim person, there is no problem, we like to socialize just like anyone else. When we are at school we also pray Dhuhr prayer, which is the second prayer we Muslims pray.
After school, you might be wondering what we do when we come home from school. Well, in Islam we spend A LOT of time with our family, sometimes a little too much. So when we come home from school most of the time we help our mothers cook and clean and do things around the house. Then we pray third salah which is around the time we come home, and do our homework for school. Most Muslims have Qur’an classes on the weekends so we practice reciting the Quran( Islam’s holy book). Then we pray our last two prayers which is at sunset, and right before we go to bed.
This brings me to my conclusion, Muslims teens are not very different from every other teen. We work, we go to school, we pray to one God, we have friends, we love our family, and we all want peace.
