A Day in the Life of Ross Eichele
May 11, 2015
As soon as I wake up in the morning, my thoughts race to my day ahead. I jump out of bed and throw on a jacket, shirt, and tie to go along for the theme of the day which depends on the day of the week. I used to dress up everyday, but over time I did not want to have to worry about clothes. I then prepare myself a fruit smoothie which I take with me on the ride to school. I first drop off my son at his school, and then continue my commute to Blaine High School.
I arrive at school between 7:00 and 7:10. Even though I’d rather walk or bike to school, my method of transport is necessary. Anyways, I begin teaching my CEMS English 10 class with as much enthusiasm as I can muster. As each class period goes by, my excitement builds for the last class of the day, which is Public Speaking. I love to help students get exposed to speaking in front of people, because I believe that it is one of the most important life skills you can have.
My second hour is CEMS Honors English 10, which is alright. Third hour is my Prep hour, so I try to be as productive as I can, because I am always thinking about what’s next. Most often I find myself grading papers and such, taking care of copies, and doing Speech and Debate things. I also try to keep my class website as updated as possible, which I try to do then. Even though it is different every day, I always end up doing something productive.
Fourth and fifth hour is Debate 1 and Public Speaking, which I enjoy. I technically have D lunch, but sometimes I don’t have time to eat. I brought a fruit smoothie with me to eat today, but I don’t have an official time so it will happen eventually.
I love socializing and visiting so I make sure to do that throughout the day. I really enjoy talking to Mesick, Munsch, Sowden, Way, or any of the music teachers. I also always make sure to talk to the secretaries in the office as well. I also try to take time to talk as much as I can in the classroom. Something that I think I do that is different than other teachers is talking to every student everyday. I make sure to find out how their day is going and how they’re doing as well. It doesn’t matter who I talk to – because Jesus, I love everyone.
After school I run the Speech and Debate Club, which I love doing. I usually don’t leave school until after 5:00, so sometimes I spend over 10 hours a day at school. In my free time I usually like to drive some of the cars that I own, going to any of my kids’ events, reading, or welding.
When I leave school at the end of the day, I usually feel pretty good. I like Blaine, it’s a great place. I have been teaching here for 10 out of 11 years, 9 in a row. There are a lot of great students here too. On my way home I never usually think about leaving school because I always think ahead. Every Thursday I take classes after school, so that is usually on my mind at one point or another. When I get home at very end of the day I feel good. I like my home.
Here we see the day and the life of Mr. Eichele. He likes teaching here at Blaine, and most importantly he makes an effort to talk to his students everyday to see how they are doing, and how their day is going. That is something that more teachers should try and corporate into their classrooms. It helps the students know that teachers actually care about them outside of the classroom.
