Upcoming Section and State Tournaments for Spring Sports

Kate Wehr and Marissa Eggerichs

As students seem to all be very excited and anxious for summer; which isn’t very far, the athletes of spring are anticipating and getting prepared for sections, and for some teams state tournaments.

The boys and girls lacrosse team’s seasons are quickly coming to an end with sections starting next week. The girl’s lax team has three games in the next three days and then maybe one or two practices before sections happening next week. Last year the team one the section quarterfinal game against Spring Lake Park and proceeded to the semis but sadly lost to the Cardinals. Sophomore Kate Wehr told our sources that, “The season has gone by so quickly. It feels like we had tryouts yesterday. But I’m excited for the next few games and sections.” The girls have had a tough year with a record of 3-7 so far this season. Hopefully they can pull out some wins in their next three games before sections against their tough opponents of Elk River, Maple Grove, and Wayzata.  The boy’s team also has had a rough season with a record of 2-8 so far.

The girl’s track team had their True Team Section meet about two weeks ago where they took second place. Even though they did not proceed to the State tournament, congratulations to this team. The girl’s sections for individuals are next week, with the State tournament following the week after. The boy’s track team took first place in their True Team Section meet two weeks ago and proceeded to the tournamentphoto that was last week. Congrats to the boy’s team for going so far and participating in the state tourney. They have the same schedule as the girls and will have sections next week with state the following. Captain Marissa Eggerichs said, “Our team worked hard this whole season and I’m proud of accomplishing second place at True Team. I’m excited and a little nervous for the individuals next week though. But I think we are prepared.” Good luck to the boys and girls track teams as they prepare for a tough section meet next week, and hopefully some of our athletes will proceed to the State tournament.

Both the boy’s and girl’s golf teams season is also coming to an end with one or two more meets left this week and then some practices before sections begin next week. Only the varsity teams participate in section tournaments. The golfers have some tight competition between them for they are all fighting for a spot into the state tournament.  The boy’s section tourney takes place at Bunker Hills Regional Golf Course, located in Blaine. The girl’s takes place at the Ridges of Sand Creek.

The boy’s tennis team lost in their section semi final match against Maple Grove last week. Congratulations to them for making it this far and for a good season. Good luck to all teams with section tournaments coming up next week. Hopefully we will have some teams or individuals moving on to participate in state tournaments as well.
