It is no secret that this is the year of the never-ending winter.  This is negatively affecting many of the spring sports here at Blaine.  With games starting this week, many teams are beginning to panic.  One of the many sports extremely affected by this weather is baseball.  The baseball team was supposed to have their first scrimmage last week, but due to the weather it was cancelled.  Their first game was scheduled for yesterday, April 3rd, however the game was postponed due to snow, once again.  We talked to a couple of captains and players to get the inside scoop on just how hard it is dealing with this terrible weather.

Senior shortstop Chris Novak told us “we’ve had to have every practice indoors, which is really hard.  We all end up messing around so we don’t get much done. Plus, baseball isn’t really a sport you can practice indoors.”  Unfortunately, this is not much different than how their season started last year.  “So many games were postponed at the beginning of the season last year, making up all the games was exhausting,” Novak stated.  Senior captain Kyle Hamby added, “a couple times we ended up having three to four games in one week.  It was very tiring.”   This condensed schedule is not ideal and the team is hoping for a weather change soon so they don’t have a repeat of last season.

Baseball is not the only sport dealing with the weather.  Track, lacrosse, golf, and tennis all share similar problems.  Sophomore Ian Peterson, a lacrosse player, told our sources, “It’s a lot easier to play outside because there is just so much more space.”  Senior track athlete Mohammed Almeala stated, “Practicing indoors is particularly hard when it comes to track because of the huge amount of people in it; it’s hard to fit us all in the field house.”  I think I’m speaking for all of us when I say that this weather needs to go, and spring needs to officially arrive.
