Are you an athlete looking for others to share and grow in your faith with? Then Fellowship of Christian Athletes is the crew for you, you don’t have to be actively in a sport to come. There are regular Monday night meetings at Nicole Huttunen’s house where you can hang out with friends and hear a message of how to help incorporate your faith in your athletics and all aspects of your life. Currently the group is in a series about relationships, from your faith, to family, to a significant other. The group does many activities as well, helping to better the community, throughout the year they do a couple food drives, where the food is donated to the local food shelf and Tiger TakeOut in the high school. FCA also volunteers at Feed My Starving Children at least once a year.

The closest upcoming event, the one everyone gets excited about is the sixth annual Thirty Hour Famine on March 28th to the 29th this year. Being an attender last year, I can honestly say this event is a blast and an experience that you will not forget, and touch your heart as cliche as that sounds, it’s true. As the name implies, those attending fast or do not eat for thirty hours straight to raise awareness for those in poorer third world countries that do not have the food or resources to eat three meals a day or not even a real meal everyday for many. The group gathers pledges and comes together to meet a goal, where the money is donated to World Vision the organization the event is done through. After attenders eat lunch on the 28th, is when the thirty hours start. You may think it’s impossible to go that long without food but they are given plenty of juice and water to keep your stomach feeling satisfied. Plus the group keeps the attenders very busy playing games and doing activities along with other FCA huddles in the area to keep one from thinking about food. The huddles spend the night at local Horizons church  for the night. In the morning, the huddles split into groups, which are called tribes, and spread out across the area, collecting food for food shelves. After counting the food, the groups get to eat! The feelings you get after going through and experiencing the thirty hour famine is better than the feelings of a full stomach after the meal. It is a great time to make new friends from other huddles and make a difference with your time.

If you’re interested in attending, you can see Mr.Richards, Mr. Theisen, and Mrs.Silverdahl who are FCA sponsors for more information.
