Entering high school as a freshmen is a scary thing for most students. People tend to be afraid of the unknown. Who will I be friends with? What kind of person do I want to be in high school? How do I want people to view me? For senior Hannah Timm, those unknown questions were almost nonexistent so many years ago when she entered the crazy world of high school. “I told myself coming into high school that I would work hard and do whatever it takes to get good grades,” said Timm. Has she succeeded in that? Hannah has gone far beyond good grades, in fact, she has kept perfect grades for four years and counting. Hannah has never received a grade lower than an “A-“, and maintains an unweighted GPA of 4.00. “I have never minded being known as the ‘smart girl,'” said Timm, “I know how hard I’ve worked, so I take being known as the smart girl as a good thing. Besides, there are a lot worse things to be known as.” Hannah has earned the respect of many by not caring what anyone else thinks. An occasional eye roll as she takes out her calculus homework in a restaurant, or a ‘Hannah put away the homework!!’ from friends at sleepovers has never stopped her. She knows who she wants to be in life, she knows what she wants to do, and she knows how she is going to get there. It is motivation like that that gets you places. Places as far as Harvard.

Hannah spent this past summer taking summer courses at Harvard University in Massachusetts. “The best summer of her life,” as she calls it. Having that college experience along with full time PSEO classes under her belt has given her an up on most other high school seniors. Hannah learned what it takes to attend an Ivy League college such as Harvard, and met some of the best people in her life along the way. She still keeps in touch with her roommates and the many other people she met during her stay. Did I mention they are all from different countries? Kind of cool, huh. Attending Harvard for a summer just did not cut it for her however. She did not get enough of it and she hopes to go back full time for college next year. Harvard being her second choice that is, Yale being her first. After getting a degree in biomedical engineering with an emphasis on neuroscience or premed to be a neurosurgeon, she hopes to then transfer to her dream school of the University of Oxford in England to get her masters. Timm wants to find cures for diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and other mental illnesses. After scoring a 34 on her ACT, she is on the right track to reach that goal and begin a life of achievements and success.
