The memorable Sno-Daze performances coming to a close

Science Teachers SnodazeSome of you may know Mr. Nick and Mr. Overgaard from Science or Mr. Drewlo from Social Studies, but all of Blaine high school know them for their amazing Sno-Daze performances they have done for the past 9 years. Sadly, the funny and outstanding dances are taking a bow, as this was their last year.

The start of their performances began when the spirit of Blaine was declining during the pep fests, and the Student Council turned to these three teachers and asked if they would do something to contribute to the spirit of the Bengals. The three of them jumped on board and created some of the greatest pep fest memories.

When asked how long it takes to put together these performances, Mr. Nick replied, “It depends on the dance. Normally about a month and we will listen to Pandora to find songs we like and think will work. Although this year we put it together in about two weeks.” And those great dance moves? The dance coaches help them out with a small routine every year.

For three guys doing something so remarkable, there has to be some sort of conflict, right? Apparently not! “There is the occasional ‘I think we should do this’ and ‘No we should do this’ but never any true arguing. There’s a lot of love between the three of us.” Mr. Nick explained. And they practice like crazy before the big performance. They come early and just do reps of their performance so they’re on their game.

Now I know many people are asking, why these performances are ending, and it’s sad to know they are, but they have a good reason to. “You can only do something for so long before it becomes boring and a routine and it’s hard to come up with new material. We don’t want to get booed either.” When asked his favorite performance, Mr, Nick responded instantly with, “Single Ladies, during the year 2011. The crowd loved it and it was a lot of fun to do.”

You all have your favorite memory from these fantastic performances, but Mr. Nicks? “It’s hard to pick just one memory. The first performance we did, no one knew what was going on so we were really nervous but once we started, everyone loved it. And the second year we came out, the audience went ballistic and that was awesome. We’ve had a lot of great times doing these, we’ve used a confetti cannon, we were carried out on a box one year and we’ve had streamers. It’s a lot of hard work but in the end, when we do the performances, it’s worth it.”
