What’s in your Locker?

When first arriving in high school, students are finally given a more spacious and somewhat “personal” locker. Most students have the basic normal locker full of books and backpacks. Lockers are especially crowded this time of year with all of the jackets, hats, and mittens present. But, Blaine High School has some students that step out of this normality and have very interesting things in their lockers that make them very unique.

There are two different types of lockers in Blaine High School, the tall slim brown lockers in the science wing and North commons, and the shorter wide blue lockers that are wanted by all. Since the brown lockers are skinnier it appears that those assigned to them have less in their locker than those in the blue lockers. This could be due to the shape of the locker making it harder to fit more supplies in the space. But the students here at Blaine seem to still be creative and make their lockers their own.

Rumors say that last school year, there was a student with a coffee maker and another student who made Kool Aid at his locker during passing time everyday. We were not able to find out if these rumors were true or false, but many say they are accurate accusations.

Some students seem to have very random and unique things in their lockers. One student, Rodney Williams told us that he has birthday balloons, football gloves, apples, and a collection of the apple stickers from lunch. Rodney’s locker is different yet more unique than most of Blaine’s students.

Another student Rebecca Hawkins told us that she keeps an extra pair of clothes in her locker along with the usual books, folders and backpacks. She keeps the clothes for as a “back up plan.” Rebecca said, “You never know what could happen or when I could need a quick change of clothes.”

To some students a locker is a place to stop by quickly during passing time and switch out there books and folders, but to others the lockers are a place where students can be social and creative. Students Sydney Seim and Danielle Peterson, both have magnets and picture clips in their locker to make it feel more personal and “cute”.

One of the main things that students keep in their lockers is sweets and snacks. Student Easton Brodzinski showed us his locker, which was full of chips and Gramma’s cookies. Adam Guenther also informed us that he keeps different boxes of food throughout the trimester, restocking when he runs out. He also keeps a stash of jollyranchers and gum. There is a lot of time between breakfast and lunch for the average high school student, and having some snacks in your locker is an easy way to stay energized and awake.

One of the main things found in some of the students asked, was basic toiletries. A student, Kaylee Williams informed us of how she keeps perfume and lotion in her locker. Sydney Streeter has these things in her locker as well. They were very common in girls lockers. Student Kaden Elvidge, told us how he has cologne and a comb in his locker. All of the students with these different toiletries said that they use these daily, and are a necessity to have in their lockers.
