As the snow starts to melt, the excitement heats up for the new softball season.
The Anoka-Hennepin Mustangs are warming up their bats for the 2013 season. Last year the team ended with a 6-2 record, and a 3rd place finish at the State Tournament. There are three seniors coming back for their last year on the team, and are some of the squads best players. There are two Bengals on the team: Andrew Peterson (11) and Hana France (9) who will look to make an impact on the season.
“I like taking a new group of athletes and putting them in a situation where they can excel using their strengths, and seeing the team come together to do their best.” said Peter Kutches, who is in his 8th year coaching for the team.
“The level of competiveness that the team brings to a game or practice. Everyone likes to win, but I’ve learned that the groups of athletes I’ve been lucky to coach really love to compete and win.” Said Kutches when asked what he likes about coaching his team.
And what is he looking forward to this year? “Getting to coach the players who have been with the team and getting to know the new ones. It’s always exciting to start a new season because the possibilities are endless on what the team can achieve.” “My expectations are always: show up, work hard, support your teammates, and do your best. Everything else will take care of itself.” said Kutches.
So cue the peanuts and cracker jacks, spring is here and the Mustangs are ready to go!
