Written by Beth Revis, “Across the Universe” is a gripping trilogy.
Amy, the main character, is on board the spaceship Godspeed, where she is kept in a frozen cryo chamber. Amy waits to arrive in Centauri-Earth, a planet that can sustain human life. A journey that should have lasted for 300 years is unfortunately cut short when Amy is unplugged 50 years earlier, nearly causing her to die. Now she and Elder, teenage heir of the frightening leader: Eldest, are yet to understand the strange events taking place on Godspeed. Not to mention, there is a killer on board.
At first, while reading this book, it took a little while for me to understand what was happening. But as the story picked up, I was quickly caught up in the characters, and all the details that makes the story seem so real. I give the first book an A.
Book two “A Million Suns” highlights the chaos occurring in Elder’s rule. Elder has finally taken the passengers of Godspeed off of the mind controlling drug; Phydus. But soon he and Amy discover that it may have done more harm than good. In between all that, Amy is forced to puzzle over the secrets inside the ship, while discovering her uncontrollable growing feelings for Elder. In this race against time, together they discover the unfathomable truth that may save them all. But there is only one clear priority in everyone’s mind; they need to get off that ship.
The book “A Million Suns” was a great follow up to “Across the Universe”. Even though the beginning was a little slow, and confusing to understand, It took more time to give more detail to explain the events and the people in which Elder was now ruling. I give the second book a B+ .
In the end, after reading these two amazing books, there are still many questions left in store for the final installment “Shades of Earth”. Will Elder and Amy be able to make a safe departure from Godspeed? Can they survive the unknown creatures this planet inhabits? Or will their human weaknesses limit the possibility of a future on Centauri-Earth? I guess we will just have to wait, and let author, Beth Revis decide….
