Why Blue?
April 9, 2015
The Bengal tigers are seen with black and orange stripes in the wild, so why aren’t Blaine’s school colors orange and black? Psychologists have examined that the color blue symbolizes integrity and confidence – while white symbolizes perfection. With those colors combined, it displays a motivating motto for our school to stand by.
It is believed that the tiger spirit animal displays willpower, personal strength, and courage. With that in mind, it is the perfect animal to capture the attitude that Blaine High School strives to achieve, but on the other hand the color orange symbolizes pessimism and black symbolizes the sense of being bottled up and hidden from the world. Keeping that aspect in mind it makes sense why Blaine High School didn’t choose orange and black to represent the school, but instead chose the blue and white colors to symbolize many great things.
After Interviewing multiple staff members we asked the big question: “Why Is The Bengal BLUE? “Among other similar questions, we finally received the answers we were looking for. As we interviewed the Head Principal of Blaine High School Mr. Phelps, he stated that “The Tale of the Tiger all started when the guy that helped start Blaine with his vision [for the school]knew the principal from Albert Lee, who also has a bengal tiger as their mascot”. It is believed that Albert Lee and Blaine’s leaders could have collaborated together and decided that they should both have the “majestic predator,” as Ms. Busch said during her interview.
After interviewing Mr. Garrety the Head Athletic Director, we had yet another theory to the question. What if the mascot and its colors were not up to just one person to decide? Mr. Garrety stated that “a committee is formed and the group decides on a mascot and school color.”
There are many possible explanations as to why Blaine’s founders chose the bengal tiger to be the school’s mascot and picked blue and white to represent the school colors. Whatever the reason is, we should be glad they did. Who would not want a school mascot whose spirit represents willpower, personal strength, and courage?
