Cheer Team Makes Nationals : Will The Team Still Perform With an Injured Captain?

The Blaine Competition Cheer team is one of the best ones in Minnesota. So far, they made it to the Minnesota Cheerleading Coaches Association state tournament every year, and this year they’ll even go to Florida. They’re going to perform at the ‘Walt Disney Resort Florida’, where the Universal Cheerleading Association Nationals are held. The whole squad worked hard to reaches this goal and they know that it’s a unique opportunity.

But on Tuesday, February 29th, Kristy Fugate slipped on the ice and fell on her arm. As one of the captains this year she is an important part of the team and involved in many stunts. Her participation is not just important for the performance, the moral and discipline of the team can also be affected when one of the captains gets injured.

“We weren’t prepared for someone to get hurt.”, said Kristy. But they managed it to fill in most of her stunts with other girls, so the team is able to perform anyways. This new situation makes some of the girls nervous, although they know that they still can do it.

We wish our competition cheerleaders good luck for their performance in Florida on February 9th!
