Social Media Networking Sites

Social Media Networking Sites

At our school, 91/100 students said that they have used social networking sites.

On a scale of 1-10 (1 being lowest), Twitter turned out to be our school’s favorite networking site and Cinemagram the least favorite.

Over the last couple years there have been new networking sites that allow users to express themselves through pictures, videos, and statuses in their own unique way.. Pinterest, Instagram, and Snapchap are ways we can communicate through pictures, Cinemagram is through videos, and Facebook and Twitter are ways to communicate by commenting on pictures, statuses, or tweets.

The newest sites that are more popular this year are Snapchat and Cinemagram. Snapchat is an app you can download on your iPhone, iPod, or Android to take pictures that you can edit or write on with text and instantly send to your friends.

To create Cinemagrams, you take a video, isolating a particular section within the shot, and looping movement while keeping the rest as a still photograph. On a touchscreen, you can edit it with your finger on the Cinemagram app and the rest is basically just like how one would use Instagram.

Facebook is a social networking site that has been around for awhile and it is a great way to find and keep in touch with your friends or family. Facebook allows you to upload pictures and videos, update statuses that friends can comment on or “like”. If you feel like telling your friend something publicly,  you can post something on their Facebook Wall. If it is a private manner, you can always message them.

Twitter is a newer networking site that allows you to “follow” friends and celebrities. Once you follow, you can see their tweets–which are similar to Facebook statuses. Twitter also allows you to update videos and pictures. Just like you would “like” something on Facebook, you can “Re-tweet”, “Favorite”, or “Quote” a follower’s tweet.

Also like Facebook, if you want to talk to a friend in private, you can direct message them so no one can see what you’re talking about.
