Sims 3- How Do You Like to Play?

The Sims for PC plays into every human beings innate nature of manipulation. I, personally have been playing since the game’s conception in 2000. Since then, developers have evolved the game play through a series of expansion packs and updates. Now in 2013, roughly 2 million people are part of the Sims universe. I am one of them. However, expansion packs can get expensive, and some computers simply can’t hold every game EA has to offer. So, I am here to review my personal favorite expansions in order to help you narrow down your options.

Sims 3 Late Night:

Released in October 2010, this is probably my favorite expansion pack you can buy. Late Night includes a brand new city to play with, Bridgeport. This world is set up like a major metropolitan city complete with subways, skyscrapers, and high end lounges. Users now have the ability to make their sims celebrities, a function that existed in the Sims 1. Proceed with caution because once your sims becomes a celebrity, they are subject to public scrutiny  Your sim will start to develop a reputation. This can make game play interesting because your reputation dictates how other sims interact with you. A good reputation wins you free drinks and friendly relationships. A bad reputation gets you kicked out of every club and bar in the town. EA also answered users prayers by bringing back the musical instruments we saw in Sims 2. New career paths are open for exploration; sims can opt to be a director or an actor. My least favorite part of this game is the time it takes to get around the city. You sim is programmed to take every single subway they come in contact with, meaning it may take your sims two sim hours just to go to the park. Also, if you are a user who likes family play, this town isn’t that family oriented.

Sims 3 Generations:

Introduced in June 2011 this expansion is perfect for the user who likes to play with life and stores of their Sims. This expansion enhances the the plot line of your sims life story. As your sims age they are introduced to new monumental moments. As a teen they can go to prom, throw parties when their parents are out of town, and play pranks on their neighbor. As a young adult, your sims will experience graduation and bachelor/bachelorette parties. Your sims now have memories. Every monumental moment in your sims life is capture and saved to a scrapbook that the user can view. Sims can also reminisce while viewing old home videos that the player can create. A new career path of daycare provider exists, although I have never tried it because I am scared of that many sim children being at my house. My least favorite part about generations is that there is no new town and that most of the “memory moments” only happen while a teen or young adult. Users that are into sims for building and design should not waste their money since there is nothing relatively new in terms of design. Although, your adult sims can go through a midlife crisis where they will demand to buy a car and run away with some young sim.

Sims 3 Seasons:

Released in November 2012 this pack is a rip off of the old Sims 2 Seasons. Again this pack is lacking in new clothes, decor, and worlds. Overall I think the game is fun, but only for one season cycle. Each season comes with it’s own holiday and festival. In Summer sims experience, “Leisure Day.” Every sim in town given the day off of work and encouraged to go down to the beach for a barbeque and a chance to light off some fireworks. Fall includes, “Spooky Day” which is the Sims equivalent of Halloween. Don’t be surprised if a few trick-or-treaters show up to your door. Winter brings my favorite sim holiday, “Snowflake Day.” Sims can invite over family for a feast and presents. Lastly, spring includes, “Love Day,” which is essentially Valentines day. Every season also brings it’s own festival where sims can go to the city park and participate in pie eating contest, ice skating, and soccer games. When paired with generations sims seasons is a great way to enhance the story of your sim families.
