“Marvel’s Man with the Mallet does all that’s required of him in a breakneck sequel that’s never dark for long. Next time, though, we’ll have more Loki and fewer elves.” – Neil Smith, Total Film

“It looks like no other movie, Marvel or otherwise, and it’s populated by characters compelling enough to support a more complex, richer story than this one.” – Keith Phipps, The Dissolve

Thor: The Dark World is the sequel to Thor (2011) and part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Right away from it’s release, the movie has become a money magnet. Attracting over $320,000,000 million in its first week in the theaters worldwide. Five days in foreign showings and the end product is $240,000,000 mil and growing. Domestically it could hit $100,000,000 by Monday, and will most likely outdo its predecessor Thor ($449,326,618) by the end of its run. While the money is no problem, critic response has not been exactly great. Many reviewers have criticized the film for its lack of excitement for the first hour of its running time. Others say the movie is to dark or lacking the human input the first movie included. Though critics aren’t everything, and the viewers know that. Most who watched it were in wow by Marvel’s constant guarantee of making a superior show. So it is up to whomever watches it to decide if it is a two hours well spent.

To me though, I loved it. In my mind, Loki stole the show and really made the movie stand out. As the god of tricks, he creates plot twist and fascinating traps for whatever comes inside his field of vision. Tom Hiddleson’s acting was supreme as well, making his character leap off the screen with manipulative vigor. As for the main character, Thor, powerful and electrifying, and in this film, more distant. Yes, I loved his performance, but with all that was going on, it seemed like the movie should have been called “The Dark World” instead. Chris Hemsworth to me is a perfect match for his superhero he was paired with, but he never did get to shine. I enjoyed his scenes within the movie, either battling dark elves or trying to prevent his love Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) from being killed. Yet, too much was going on at once, so nothing was really detailed in any aspect.

Thor: The Dark World has enough action and thrills to earn 3.9 out of 5 paws. Good acting and visuals really make the movie and the plot was favorably fine. I recommend everyone to experience it in theaters.
