3. The rest of the world does, why not?
With soccer already huge everywhere around the world, believe it or not; the U.S. are falling behind. Last year, FOX aired the 2012 UEFA champions league final, Chelsea vs. Bayern Munich, with expected views around the world of 300 million people. The world cup final featuring Netherlands vs. Spain attracted 3.2 billion people. How many people watched the superbowl last year? 111.3 million. And how many of those were just for the halftime performances and the commercials?
The rest of the world is obviously utterly entranced with this sport; why not find out what all the fuss is about?
2. USA national team needs your support
During the 2010 world cup, the U.S. national team proved that they were not to be over looked in the worlds biggest competition. Marking the countries sixth consecutive appearance to soccers biggest party, the team made it to round 16. Sadly, only to lose to the African team Ghana. The loss was sad -yes- but the point is, USA offered the world something to talk about. With last minute winners by Landon Donavan, great attacking mid-field by youngster Michael Bradley, terrific saves by goal keeper Tim Howard, and not to mention the man with a plethora of goals, Clint Dempsey; who knows what 2014 in Brazil has in store for this young and growing U.S team.
1. Its a beautiful sport
There is nothing that can compare to the simplicity of this sport. A simple game that transcends all barriers; where it matters not what religion, country, class, creed, or race you are. A sport where for 90 min, hope is a comforting friend, disappointment is lurking in the corner, and emotions become motivations. Where the word “GOAL” can mean heartbreak or ecstasy.
Where else in the world, but a soccer field, could the U.S. be outplayed by a third-world country like Ghana? Nowhere. Who else in the world, but soccer fans, would define the word religion, or life, with the word soccer? No one. What else can offer homeless people a second chance the way soccer can? Nothing. Yes, thats right; homeless people. There is such a thing as a homeless world cup; an organization with a goal of ending homelessness.
Someone once told me that soccer was “Just a sport”.
That was the biggest lie I had ever heard.
Its more than “just a sport”.
It is the purest definition of beautiful, it is a universal language.
