Redbox: Top 3 movies

1. LOL: (Starring Miley Cyrus, Demi Moore)

Miley Cyrus plays a teen who is trying to recover from a break-up by experimenting with drugs, alcohol, sexuality, and seducing her ex’s best friend, all while keeping it a secret from her clueless mother (Moore).

LOL was directed by Lisa Azuelos, a French producer. In 2008, Azuelos produced a version of this movie in France which was incredibly popular; too bad her Americanized version was a complete bust. This movie not only lacks good acting, but it also lacks depth and over exaggerates Hollywood’s version of the “typical teen”. Not to mention that with about 20 minutes left in the movie, the scriptwriters must have decided it was time to wrap it up, resulting in a happy ending for all the characters, but the viewers.

2. The Lucky One (Starring Zac Efron, Taylor Schilling)

Efron plays a hardened marine who goes on a quest to find a woman (Schilling) who he believes is the reason why he is still alive.

All I have to say is mediocre. Mediocre acting and a mediocre script. One good point from this production (besides seeing Zac Efron shirtless) was Taylor Schilling. Schilling plays the perfect envisionment of a Nicholas Sparks heroine; she acts with grace and confidence. For all die hard Spark fans this movie should meet the expectations. The Lucky One is predictable, corny, and covered with enough gushiness, to make it a perfect movie for date night. You know if you like that sort of stuff.

3. The Cabin in the Woods (Kristen Connolly, Chris Hemsworth)

Five friends go to a cabin in the middle of the woods, and bad things happen.

For fear of giving a way too much detail, I am going to keep it simple. Being someone who is not a fan of scary movies, The Cabin in the Woods was not at all what I had expected.  It was well executed, ironically comedic and scary all at the same time. Before watching this movie, brace yourself. It will blow your mind (not literally of course).
