Presenting the Reppin’ Blue’s…

Kicking off the start of the year with their first concert on Tuesday, the choirs of Blaine High School were prepared to show off what they’ve achieved so far in the last 9 weeks of school. But this year, choir teacher Susan Zemlin had something new to show off as well.

She had made the decision for students who had missed their chance freshman year, to have their own individual class, separate from the 9th grade choirs;

    “We had more students sign up for choir, and I didn’t want upperclassmen to be held back in 9th grade choirs, I wanted them to have an upper class choir of their own.”

This singing group of upperclassmen will have a lot to prove, but that isn’t to say that the already existing choirs won’t bring their A game as well. Mrs. Zemlin, however, has full confidence that all will do fine;

     “Oh yeah, absolutely. I feel like, compared to the beginning of school, they are all singing out more confidently.”

And just as well, Zemlin predicted right. The concert went smoothly, showing off the new voices of the choir classes this year. The Chamber and Concert choirs, showing off their well practiced vocal ability. Also showcasing some great solos, from the concert choir, to the freshmen women. All of whom were feeling victorious after successfully completing a concert;

     “I felt like all the performances went really well.” Says Abigail Fiske, president of the choir program at Blaine. Another member was also glad to state his opinion;

    “For the first concert, I thought it went amazing.”

Alex Rollins, member of the newly established mixed choir, Reppin’ Blue, agreed with that sentiment.

    “I thought it went pretty good. It was better than I expected.”

‘Well better is always good. How do you plan on improving for the next concert?’

    “Practicing more,” She says laughing, “Definitely.”

This being the first concert of the year, there are still plenty more that students can attend. One of the more exiting choir events of the year, Madrigal dinner has tickets start selling on November 1st. Go to Mrs. Zemlin’s teacher webpage for more information on the event.
