All season the Blaine volleyball team has had “Unfinished Business” and on Halloween they played like it. The Totino Grace Eagles came in 21-9 and confident, but they left 21-10 and despairing after having their season ended by the Blaine Bengals.
As usual, the Bengals dominated every facet of the section match from start to finish. Lydia Dimke (11) and Taylor Morgan (10) shared almost half of the Bengal’s total kills between them. (20 of 42 total kills).
Senior Captain Alex Brown has four years of varsity experience and showed it off by digging 23 times against the Eagles. Brown leads the team with 389 digs this season. Brown plays libero, and according to head Coach Celeste Gorman, also holds the role of Blaine’s emotional leader. “She’s one of our captains and very caring when it comes to her teammates,” said Gorman.
The Bengals swept the match, winning each set, 25 – 21, 25 – 21, 25 – 20, and moved their season record to an impressive 28-1. The Bengals only loss came in an away game against The Wayzata Trojans early in the season.
The Bengal “Superfans” embraced the Halloween season by dressing up in costumes for the match.
The Blaine Bengals will face play the next round in their sectional tournament against the 17-10 Osseo Oriels on Saturday November 3rd at 7pm. The neutral match will be played at Anoka High School. The Osseo Oriels are ranked 27th in the state. The Oriels are coming off of a narrow win against the St. Michael – Albertville Knights (3-2). The Bengals defeated the Oriels 3-1 in the third game of the season.
