Malik Gone Viral

Malik Stewart embracing his predecessors terminally ill father

A story of our very own Blaine High School student, Malik Stewart, has gone viral. Google his name right now and you will find pages of news programs such as the Huffington post, USA Today, and ABC NEWS all praising him for one simple gesture that has now touched thousands of lives.

Malik is a wrestler, a good one, and made it to the final round of the state tournament on March 1, 2014. He lost after being pinned one minute and twenty two seconds into the match by Mitchell Mckee, whose dad is terminally ill. There aren’t enough words to describe what happened next. Instead of walking off angry and defeated after his predecessor shook his hand, Malik ran to Mitchell’s dad, shook his hand and embraced him. The crowd responded with applause and tears as they were touched by what they had seen.

“[Mckee] was pretty proud, and his dad was pretty proud, so I went over there and I shook his hand. I embraced him a little bit, and told him to stay strong and that everybody loves him. I got a little teary because I lost the match, and I knew the hard times he was going through.” Malik said. The story goes that Malik’s father passed away from a heart attack when he was just seven. People relate to both of these wrestlers and what they are or have gone through, but the way Malik handled this situation has moved the human heart of thousands.
