D1 Girls Hockey Players Confident About Coming Season

November 17, 2015

The Blaine Girls Hockey team is coming off a 2014-2015 season where they placed 5th in the State Tournament and graduated only three seniors.  Currently, their record is 2-0 and they have solidly beaten Totino-Grace 9-1 and North Metro 11-0. They are a fun to watch team that will be very good this season, they can challenge for the State Championship. The sky’s the limit for this team this season. I interviewed juniors Emily Brown (EB), Sam Auman (SA) and Paige Beebe (PB) last week and asked them what they thought about their coming season. All three girls have committed to play Division One hockey.

Do you guys have any expectations for the coming season?

EB: Obviously every year one of our goals is to try and  make it to the state tournament, but this year, in particular, we want to win the whole thing.

Do you think coming off a state-run will add some pressure?

PB: It definitely adds a lot of pressure considering we were in it last year, but we hope that makes us work even that much harder.

What is your goal for this season? Is it winning the state championship?

EB: Yes!

PB: Yes!

SA: Yes, that’s our main goal. We have it up on the locker room, we have posters and all that stuff. It makes it so it’s not just one person works hard of us but all of us work hard, and I think that’s what makes the difference.

Anybody you predict to have a breakout season this year?

SA: There are a lot of players I think that will have a breakout season this year.

EB: I think we will just all come together as a team and improve on what we started last year.

PB: We definitely have some younger players that I look forward to watching throughout the season. I’m excited to watch them progress.

SA: Right now we have 3 committed players, and I think that by my senior year we can have 5 or 6. I think we have a lot of breakout players

What do you think will be a team strength this year?

PB: I think a big part of it is our overall team bond, and how we play together. I think we do well at possessing the puck, and we hope to get better at getting more scoring opportunities.

EB: We have a strong defensive core and I believe that giving up goals will not be an issue this year.

Any big games or opponents you are particularly excited for?

PB: I’d say definitely Maple Grove and Centennial. If we get the chance to play Mounds View that would be another great game, as well as Breck and Benilde St. Margaret’s because we do not get to play them very often.

Thank You for your time! Come watch the Girls play 3 PM at the Fogerty North Ice Rink! It will be against conference rival Maple Grove, so come and support!
