Fault In Our Stars: Love and Terminal Illness?

Oh not again, yet another love story between teenagers. Although The Fault in Our Stars has predictable moments throughout the movie. This movie has a different spin on it because both of the main characters have cancer. The movie shows that even though both of them have cancer they can still do normal teenager things like fall in love.

The Fault in Our Stars is a novel written by John Green turned into a movie directed by Josh Boone. The movie followed closely with the plotline of the book which is something that doesn’t normally happen when it comes to books turning into movies.

The movie starts with the main character Hazel Grace telling the story of how she got to the current point of her life. She talks about the kind of cancer she has, how she came to have the cancer diagnosed, and finally the treatments she receives for it. The mother of Hazel Grace wants her (Hazel) to start attending cancer support group. At that support group she met the other main character Augustus Waters. After Hazel shuts down what Augustus wants to believe what happens after death he still invites her over to his house where they discuss their favorite books. Augustus gets caught up in trying to get the author of Hazel’s favorite book to meet with them. August, Hazel, and Mrs.Lancaster (Hazel’s mom) end up getting an invitation to come to Amsterdam from who they thought was Peter Van Houten (the author) but it was actually from his assistant. Before they leave Hazel has to get the okay from her doctors. She got the okay from them even though her lungs started filling up with water; ruining what she thought was her chance to go. Her mother works out the trip which ables Hazel Grace to go. The author of the book ended up being as Hazel called him “douche pants”.  The end of that trip is what Hazel the most, Augustus told her he was dying from cancer.Augustus ends up dying from his cancer that returned not long after their return from Amsterdam. Hazel gives one of the eulogies at his funeral. After the funeral Van Houten shows up in her car and gives her a piece of paper. That paper was Augustus trying to get him to write more to the ending of his book. The ending is going to have you wipe a tear off your face!
