Robotics
September 23, 2014
The truth is most people don’t know what robotics is. Robotics isn’t just building robots its a actual sport. Robotics isn’t just a bunch of nerds working on a robot this sport stretches across the whole country with 3,000 teams involving 75,000 high school students. So what exactly is robotics? Each year the type of game changes, last year it was a game that involved launching a big ball and the year before that was frisbees. What is in store for this year we don’t know yet. The build season kicks off in January and goes for 6 weeks. 6 Weeks sounds like a lot of time but almost all of the robot has to be built in that time and then sealed in a bag to prevent cheating. In those short 6 weeks students get to not only build a robot but get the see the design process in real life. In that time you have to collaborate with other students to build your robot. Each piece has usually gone through many changes based on FRC rules and on practicality. The students in robots carry a wide variety of skills like Mechanics, Programming, Pneumatic’s, Electrical, and computer programs like inventor and blender. Robotics requires a wide variety of skills and we would like to see new students this year or parents with engineering back grounds willing to mentor. Our Team
Last year was one of our best years yet we build a amazing robot and we even found our way to state. We placed 3rd in our alliance at our regionals and we also placed in the twenties at state of 180 teams! Each robotics game is played with three robots on a team or alliance V.S. another alliance. There were many options to build our robot off the main three were Defence, Passing, and Scoring. Our robot excelled at scoring we had a forward launcher in the front and a loader in the back. This allowed us to pick up the ball of the floor and shoot it into the goal to score points. We had very good programmers that got us a lot of points in autonomous mode which is when the robot has to run solely off previously inputted programming no human control is allowed. Our robot excelled at our competitions and it was great getting out there and enjoying the sport we all love. We would love to grow the program and bring in more people so if you’re interested please email our great mentor Nesty at [email protected] .We hope to see all of you there and we hope to have a even better year than last year. Visit our teams personal website at frcteam2181.wordpress.com for more information and show up at out first meeting after school in room 128 at October 7th.
