The Road To Homecoming

The Road To Homecoming

Did you know, not only do the players work hard for the big friday night football game! The dance team does too, for the homecoming half time show. We spent a total of 9 days of practice. Heres a day by day on what the dancers did to prepare for the big day.

9/8: Started the day by running 5 laps on the track, then did our daily stretches. It was the 1st day of choreography.

9/9: Two laps around the track today, and sprints up and down the stairs. Our daily stretching, then continued learning about 1/2 way through the 2 minute 45 second song.

9/10: Got the day off from running the track! We did our every day stretch, then went over first half of the dance and learned our formation.

9/11: Ran 1 mile around the track. Our team got the whole gym due to an away volleyball game. We worked on the famous 2 lifts in the dance.

9/12: Added practice on friday. Ran 2 laps and continued to perfect the lifts while running the first half over and over again. Our homework was to go home and learn the 2nd half of dance online.

9/15: Got all the 2nd half formations, including the “bow tie” our coolest move in the dance. Didn’t have to run sense we ran out of time due to going over all our homework.

9/16: Ran one lap around the track, stretched, then perfected all the stuff we went over on monday. Made minor changes to the dance.

9/17: Ran one lap. Practice on the field to get the real feeling for friday night. The coaches went and mapped out every formation on the yard lines. We counted through the whole dance 2 times in a row.

9/18: The last day! No running, small stretch. Got the big gym due to another away volleyball game. Practiced jazz and pom (the other dances) for the Andover dance show on saturday. Then spent the last hour adding the finishing touches and mapping out formations for Pepfest!

9/19: THE BIG DAY! arrived at school at 6:30am to stretch and get the last run thru before the Pepfest. It was a hit! later that night we came to the field house at 5, ran threw the dane one last time on the field and performed.

“The dance felt better than we’ve ever done it, all the hard work pulled through!” Abbie Nyberg(10)
