With the 2021 girls lacrosse season on its way, the Blaine Bengals have much to look forward to. With high expectations, the girls intend to make this season one to remember. Senior captains Brielle Fussy and Peyton Parent have plenty to say regarding what it means to be a captain and their overall perception of the team.

Due to Covid 19, the girls missed an entire season. Regarding the absence of the 2020 season, Fussy compromised for the lack of playing and practice time by “making sure I was making myself better by working out and staying in shape so I can make sure I can be a valuable player for my team.”

Parent had a similar  response. She said, “I play hockey as well, so I think just staying active is really helpful, along with picking up a lacrosse stick and shooting balls in my backyard.”

For Fussy, being a captain “means a lot”  Fussy proceeded to say, “knowing I’m put in a position to help and show my leadership skills is something I don’t take for granted.”

In regards to being chosen captain, Parent said, “It’s a really big honor to be seen as such a leader and I am excited to see what we can accomplish this year.”

After a few captains practices as well as the first day of tryouts completed, Fussy said, “The team seems to look pretty good this year, got some good varsity returners, like Peyton Parent, [senior captain] Kendra Entsminger, [junior] Grace Bautch, and lots of new girls that look pretty good as well — expecting a good run this season with these girls, very excited.”

As far as returners go, Parent said, “We have four girls that have played varsity lacrosse before so hopefully us four can help get all the young girls ready for the higher level of play.”

The most recent state appearance for the girls occurred in 2019. Parent, who was on that 2019 team as a freshman said she “want[s] to go to state. I think our team will be able to accomplish a lot if everyone stays focused. It will be interesting with so many new people on the team due to not having a season last year, but I have high hopes.”
