With a less than intriguing first-round, and a significantly more exciting second-round complete, the NBA playoffs are truly heating up in the conference finals.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have swept through their competition thus far, eliminating the Detroit Pistons and Atlanta Hawks 4-0 in their respective series. Lebron James is looking well-rested and is looking to hold on to his “Most-Valuable Player” claim after losing the MVP award to Stephen Curry for the second consecutive year. Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving are looking great to after both suffered season-ending injuries during last year’s playoffs.

After struggling initially in the first round against the Indiana Pacers, narrowly defeating them 4-3, the Toronto Raptors survived another close one against the Miami Heat, winning 4-3, but unfortunately losing star center Jonas Valanciunas.

The Western Conference side has been even more interesting. During the first round, the Los Angeles Clippers suddenly became title contenders after Golden State’s Stephen Curry went down with a knee injury, but lost their own stars, Blake Griffin and Chris Paul, less than 24 hours later. This caused the San Antonio Spurs’ title odds to bounce around, but this eventually didn’t matter as they could not handle the Oklahoma City Thunder in the conference semis. Stephen Curry recovered and the Warriors were able to defeat Damian Lillard and the Portland Trailblazers in 5 games, bringing us to the conference finals.

So far, the conference finals have been very exciting, living up to their mid-season hype. The Cavaliers are currently up 2-1, and Lebron looks to return to his sixth consecutive NBA Finals appearance. However, Demar Derozen and Kyle Lowry of the Raptors likely won’t go down without a fight.

While everyone expected a Spurs-Warriors wrestling match, we’ve been treated to something equally exciting. No one expected the 73-win Golden State Warriors, arguably the greatest regular season team in NBA history, to be down 2-1 to the Oklahoma City Thunder, who have had many struggles with chemistry. The Warriors must now win three of their next four games against the larger and faster Thunder to have a chance to repeat.

It’ll be interesting to see how the NBA handles Draymond Green’s nutshot against Steven Adams after they suspended Dahntay Jones for a similar move against Bismack Biyombo. If Green is suspended, the Thunder could very well go up 3-1, leaving the Warriors with absolutely no margin of error. If he isn’t, the Warriors would have a pretty good chance to tie the series, considering they haven’t lost two consecutive games since last year’s finals. This season could be altered by one decision.

NBA fans will definitely stay tuned for this decision, and the upcoming NBA Finals, whether Stephen Curry or Kevin Durant is in it.
