Students Talk About Malaysian Airline Flight 370

More than two weeks ago, a 777 plane unexpectedly disappeared from Malaysian air-space, and off of the entirety of the world’s radar. The world has been searching for answers: — Where did the plane go? Who could have tampered with the plane?  How could, in an age as advanced as ours, we lose thousands of tons of metal into the ocean?

I have talked to some students here at Blaine High School and asked them what they think about the ordeal in the eastern world.

Megan Connolly, a senior, said, “I think that it’s a crazy and scary scenario and it makes me not want to fly so much anymore.”

Mik Jagunich, a junior, said, “It sounds suspicious, people were using fake passports and some people didn’t show up that should have. Very suspicious.”

“With the technology we have today, how could we lose an entire airplane? We can track phones all over the world, but can’t find the multi-ton plane?” said Matt Liston, a senior.

Bryan Colon, a senior, believes there’s some trickery involved. “There’s pictures of things in the ocean… with what looks likes the same thing in the other corner. There are also 122 potential sites that the plane could be in, no one can know where the plane is,” he said.

I posed the next question to some more students in Blaine High School: “The Malaysian government declared all 227 passengers dead, about two and a half weeks into the investigation. This was met by outcry from Chinese citizens, who made up the majority of the flight. Do you think Malaysia made the right choice in this decision?” Students had a mixed reply to this question, in support and against the Malaysian government’s decision.

Megan Connolly and Matt Liston believe that until we know for sure where the plane went down and find bodies, dead or alive, nothing should be declared as fact.

Logan Micek, a senior, said, “I think it’s right to declare them dead. I don’t think there’s a chance anyone lived. It’s been a significant amount of time, and they haven’t shown anything up to this point to prove that the plane [safely landed].”

The biggest mystery of the past 10 years is being investigated at this moment. Searches are being buffeted instead of lessened, and the United States government might step in soon to facilitate the search. Only time will unveil what happened to Flight 370.
