Prom-posals

February 28, 2014

During every spring time, hundreds of senior and junior students, both boys and girls decide whether they will be attending prom, or not. But the bigger issue for all of these students is who will be their date, or if they will even have one. Trust me, teenage girls want to be asked to prom in a cute, sweet way, and the chances of them saying yes are huge.. Many senior and junior students here at Blaine High School have asked friends and boyfriends/girlfriends of all grades to their prom already, with the date of the ball being April 12th.

Valentine’s Day, the day of love, is a perfect time to ask someone to prom and Jordan Lee took advantage of this opportunity. Angel Vang, sophomore, was surprised to find the small heart with prom written across it in the box of chocolates her boyfriend had gotten her for Valentine’s Day. Thrilled to not only have gotten chocolates (which every girl loves), she was also got a date to the prom, of course saying yes.

Another junior was hoping to take advantage of Valentine’s Day but his girlfriend being busy with the hockey game that night, he decided to do it the day before. Parking his car in her neighbors driveway so his girlfriend wouldn’t know he was there, Kyle Maurer asked her parents to pretend that their was package for Nicole Huttunen in her room. Totally clueless that her boyfriend was there she walked into her room surprised to see prom written out in her favorite candies, along with a giant teddy bear, roses and a picture frame, with Kyle standing alongside it. Kyle got the yes he was looking for her.

After going snowboarding in Colorado with her family and many of her neighbors, sophomore Hailey Borja stepped off the plane to a wonderful surprise. A good friend of hers, Craig Behun was waiting at the airport with a huge neon sign and some candy. Hailey was definitely eager to come home and see all of her friends after the trip which her family took every year, but this huge surprise really made her day. Going to prom as a sophomore is a huge deal, and Hailey couldn’t be more excited for April 12th to come.

Sophomore Maddy Nelson, also got a wonderful surprise. It might not have been at the airport, but she was just as thrilled to be asked to go to the junior/senior prom. Junior Alvin Tisi, got out of class to go into Maddy’s lunch where he stood on the table with the colorful sign shown and asked Maddy, if she would be his date. By the smile on Maddy’s face, I think it is safe to say she is very excited to not only be going to the prom this year but also to have some of her friends going as well.

Junior Madison Clauson attended prom last year, as a sophomore and couldn’t be more excited to attend this year as well. While Mads was snowboarding, which she loves to do, she was going up the ski lift to get back to the top of the hill. As she was going up she saw one of her good friends, Blake Germain sitting on the hill below her with letters in the snow that read “ PROM?”. Mads was so excited and happy and very impressed with the creative way he asked her to be his date.

Junior Shiana Hart also attended prom last year, and was very excited to go this year. Since she is a junior, she was going to plan out a cute way to ask her sophomore boyfriend, AJ Belchak. Before class on Monday, Shiana chatted with AJ’s teacher, making sure he was okay with the plan. She taped a cute little duck to the bottom of his desk and put a sign up on the smart board, which said “Look under your desk and you will see which lucky duck gets to go to prom with me.” Shiana was so excited and had a blast planning this out, and AJ couldn’t be more thrilled to be going with his awesome girlfriend.

For senior, Marissa Eggerichs this year is a bittersweet time, for it will be her last prom as a high schooler. Over a month ago, Marissa tweeted “Write prom on a chipotle burrito and I’m yours” and her now prom date, Zach Brunko, was paying attention. This week, Zach got a poster and a burrito and asked her to be his date. Being asked just how she had said, of course she said yes! Girls like when not only boys, but people pay attention and remember the little details, making this prom-posal, that much sweeter that he remembered from a month ago, that this is what she wanted. Plus you can never go wrong with food! Which senior, Ryan Erlandson knew. Asking Dani Bayer using donuts, with the saying, “I DONUT want to go with anyone but you, so.. prom?, written in frosting on the donuts. A tasty way to ask a girl to prom. One can’t go wrong with food and flowers while asking a girl to prom.

Junior Lexi Nelson used candles to ask her sophomore boyfriend Thomas Stanek. She laid this out on a kitchen table and spelt out PROM?. She also had a picture bouquet and a bouquet of flowers to give to him. She turned the lights off and lit the candles. Thomas was very thrilled to be going to prom with his amazing girlfriend Lexi.

Prom is always exciting and stressful for the high school students attending. A lot of hard work and time is put into it. However the night of prom is one that is never forgotten, you will hear people of all ages say they remember that night. High schoolers can attend prom as junior and seniors unless asked by an upperclassmen, which many sophomores have had the lucky opportunity to be asked this year. Being asked in that sweet special way is one of the things that make the night so memorable, but not the only thing. It’s not all about one is asked, but it is a sweet way to make someone feel special.
