Boys’ Basketball: Osseo at Blaine

Boys Basketball: Osseo at Blaine

A matchup in nature between an oriole and a bengal would mean bad news for the oriole.  Fortunately for the Osseo Orioles, this was a game of basketball against the Bengals at Blaine High School. It was never really close as Osseo routed Blaine, 78-46.

Osseo absolutely dominated through and through, especially with their ability to rebound.  Ian Theisen(12), listed at 6′ 9″, was too much for Blaine. He relentlessly attacked the glass with countless rebounds. The big killer for Blaine was the offensive rebounds that Osseo grabbed. The Bengals were often able to stop the initial shot, but were unable to secure the rebound.

Theisen added two dunks that brought the Osseo bench and fan section to their feet, and gave his team energy that would stifle Blaine throughout.

It was a game in which Blaine just beat itself.  The Bengals made only five of their 17 free throws, and had twice as many turnovers (16) as they did assists (8).

In the final minutes of the game, when coach Mark Arzdorf had decided that the game was out of reach, he sent in seven different JV players to get a taste of the varsity atmosphere. Fedhi Gobena(12) was the only to score.

The Bengals, whose record is now 2-2, look forward to playing big time rival Coon Rapids on Friday at Coon Rapids High School.
